From Sam - Happiness is the Key

Hello Everyone,

This week was pretty amazing. The most amazing part of the week was zone conference on Thursday. It was a mission tour so the second counselor of the area presidency, Elder Koch(Said like ko), came and was part of the zone conference. In the conference he gave the analogy that the Church of Jesus Christ is like a bus. It's going to heaven/eternal life. Everyone can get on the bus but those who get on need to pay the bus fee. The fee is reading the Book of Mormon, coming to church, praying, repenting, paying tithing, fasting, keeping the commandments and serving others and serving in the church. All those kind of things. Sometimes people want to get on the bus but they don't want to pay the bus fee. If people don't pay the bus fee the conductor throws them out. The biggest reason why people want to get on the bus is because the bus leads people to happiness. Everyone wants to be happy but not enough people want to pay the price to be happy. As missionaries we need to help people see that by doing the things we invite them to do, it will bring them true happiness. As members of the church we know what we need to do to get that happiness. But sometimes we also fail to pay the fee. We may be lazy in ministering, or in paying our tithing, or sharing the gospel with our friends because we might be rejected. But if we try to please God without offending Satan that we have the wrong attitude. Why would happiness be so scary to share? That's for you all to figure out.

Besides zone conference this week I spent a lot of time in the office. I'm doing all the flights and immigration stuff. It's pretty cool and stressful at the same time. Saturday, Sunday and Mondays are the only days I don't go into the office. On Saturday I met with the bishop of my ward with the other missionaries, then I did a district leader training with the district leaders, then the highlight of my Saturday was on the way to a lesson with a couple people I'm teaching that are progressing(Emily, Paulina, Jemima and Jennifer) we passed by Jennifer's place with the members that were working with us and we found that Jennifer and her family was shifting. So, instead of teaching the gospel we decided to live the gospel. We called those we were going to teach and we all helped Jennifer to move. By the end of is all I was in full body exhaustion. I wanted to help more but I knew that I would be so tired. My spirit was willing but my body was weak. I ended up telling my companion the scripture in Mosiah 4:27 and then we finally consented at the request of Jennifer to stop and rest.

This week was great. I have 17 more weeks to go. It seems short but it's actually long but in reality it's short. I'm trying not to count down but the closer it comes the harder is gets.

I love you all,
-Elder Smith
