From Mom - Life is Short:

Dear Sam,

I'm currently squished in a mini van with seven adults (My Dad, Melody, Keith, Shirley and her dog, Chris, and Mark) coming back from my cousin's funeral, which was in Penticton, B.C.

When I heard that Will had died from a heart attack while resting in the Frankfurt, Germany airport, I thought it was sad to die so young and also sad to die far from home, but I wasn't planning on attending the funeral because I wasn't really close to him (he's Uncle Donnie's oldest son). Then a few days later I heard that Will had requested in his personal directive that his father (my uncle) NOT be in attendance. (They were estranged from each other.) And THAT was the saddest thing of all! Immediately I felt a spiritual prompting to attend this funeral, to support Uncle Donnie and to help in any way. But ... I didn't want to do it. The feeling intensified until I understood it truly was the Spirit, so I made arrangements to go. Worth it.

I got to spend time with Mark and learn from him, visit and comfort my uncle, reconnect with my Auntie Carol (who I haven't seen in 26 years), get a Father's blessing from my Dad, see some beautiful scenery, and get some important perspective on life. I was very glad I went despite the inconvenience and sacrifice.

Dad sent me the following photos from home while I was away.

1) We ordered some new bar stools from Amazon. They arrived fully assembled and Dad had to transport them in the car somehow.

2) We (Dad, mostly ... And Abby and Mia) made a homemade "sofa table" to fit behind the couch.

3) Come Follow Me and food.

4) Ben making perogies.

Love you lots, Sammy Boy!

From Sam - End of Transfer 9

Hello everybody,

Time flies, I've been out longer than a year. All the old missionaries always said that you lose count after a year and it's very true. I'm done 9 transfers and I'm losing count about how long I've been out. All I know is that it has been longer then a year. Though thoughts of home are always present and thoughts of how much time I have to wait is always there. But I'm loving everyday here in the mission field. At first when you meet people they are strangers, but if you spend the time to get to know them, they could be your best friends. I have gotten into the habit of acting like you are best friends with people the very first time we meet. It's very fun because you never know who you have been friends with before this life.

I'm sorry this is short. But I love you all,

Elder Smith

I'll send the rest of the pictures.
