From Sam - Week 1:

Hello all my dear friend and family,

The MTC is way different then what I thought. They had us teaching on day two, which was, at first, a little shocking. As the days continued, they have us teaching almost everyday. But I’m loving it all. My companions name is Elder Rich, and the other missionaries in the same room as me are Elder Ellsworth and Elder Moggs. It has been pretty cool, so far I’ve seen Elder Rice, Elder Pederson and one more sister, who’s name I forget, that I know. The spirit is so strong here. At first I didn’t really notice the strength of the spirit until I started teaching and studying. It is as people say, overwhelming.

This is for those who have been to the MTC. My residents is in R7, room 207. I’m in Branch 44a, meaning I’m in branch 44 and in district A. My mission is not an IPad mission, but for the duration of my stay at the MTC, I have an iPad to help me with my studying, teaching and staying in contact with my branch. I can check emails whenever but I can only email on my P-Days. Which are Saturdays.

Josh, it’s like you said two years ago. I feel like the most mature person in my district. Except for maybe two other Elders.  The first time I felt some homesickness was this morning. As I was getting up, I thought to myself, “if I was home, I could just press snooze and continue sleeping.” But after I got up and started my scripture study, I felt a lot better about being here instead of home. I’m absolutely loving the MTC, as well as the gospel. Everyday I feel more closer to my savior Jesus Christ. Keep loving the gospel. Keep striving to become better. Just like the 2018 youth theme, there is “Peace in Christ”.

If you want any emails specific to you, please send me an email with questions so that I can answer to just you. And I’ll make sure to send as much pictures as I can.

Picture 5: Tyler sent this with Steph to remind me to trust in the lord and that he will catch me if I fall.

Picture 6: More Scripture study. I told Elder Moggs that I was going to take a picture, so he quickly grabbed his scriptures so he could look like he was doing something.

Yesterday we had exercise time, there was a big gym for sports, but there was also a big running track on the second floor with a bunch of workout equipment. As soon as I figured this out, I went all ham on the workout equipment and ran the track a bunch of times. All I can say is I woke up this morning very sore. But with the exercise time I have today, I think i'll be doing the same thing. My goal is to level up my stamina so I can do more physical activities longer.

Sincerely Elder Smith
